V. B. Strelets is a leading scientist in the study of the physiological bases of higher mental functions in normal and mental pathology. Important results were obtained in her study of schizophrenia, which is regarded as a disease of the “forked brain”. V. B. Strelets for the first time in the world literature described a disorder in schizophrenic patients with hemispheric interactions at the frequencies of the gamma rhythm, the highest-frequency EEG rhythm, which contributed to an understanding of the pathogenesis of this disease. In depression, she described an increased activation of the right frontal and left posterior areas of the cortex while braking the symmetrical cortical regions. This allowed us to formulate ideas about the "cross block" in this disease. Such a block may underlie ideomotor and motor inhibition during depression, which is one of the characteristic manifestations of this disease. The latest research by V. B. Strelets is devoted to the study of the early stages of analyzing the information entering the brain in schizophrenia. Previously it was thought that in schizophrenia, the late, cognitive stages of signal evaluation were mostly impaired. V. B. Strelets showed that when perception of complex, including verbal signals, violations begin already at the stages of automatic information processing, which may underlie violations of patients' cognitive activity. Under the guidance of V. B. Strelets, 8 Ph.D. theses were defended. V. B. Strelets for more than 25 years, the Russian delegate to the International Federation of Clinical Neurophysiology (IFCN), participates in the organization of international congresses on clinical neurophysiology. From 2005 to 2011, she was the coordinator of the “Social Aspects of Ecology and Medicine” section of the RHF, currently a member of the expert council of this section of the Foundation. V. B. Strelets is a member of the editorial board of the journal VND, a member of the editorial board of the international journal Aging. V. B. Strelets - Member of the Dissertation Councils of the Institute of Developmental Physiology, Russian Academy of Sciences, Institute of Age Physiology, Russian Academy of Sciences. In 2012, she received an award to them. A.A. Ukhtomsky for a series of articles "The physiological basis of cognitive activity in health and mental illness"
