One of the main modern hypotheses of brain function is the hypothesis that the processing of information in the brain is associated with changes in the efficiency of synaptic transmission under the influence of stimuli of various nature (synaptic plasticity). Our work is carried out within the framework of this hypothesis and is devoted to the study of the mechanisms underlying the short-term (occurring in the range of seconds, minutes) synaptic plasticity in various synapses in the cerebral cortex and hippocampus. At present, our studies are focused on the modulation mechanisms of short-term synaptic plasticity, in particular, on how the calcium-binding buffer proteins (mainly calretinin) modulate the work of various synapses.
